Basis of Zip Files
Sometimes online you will see files spanning up to tens of gigabytes and you begin to wonder, how can I download such. A download of that size will definitely consume a lot of bandwidth. Phillip Katz identified this issue and he fixed it. In 1986 he invented the zip file. Zip files are compressed files. That is, a collection of multiple files merged into one. ZIP files are essential because it reduces space consumption. In addition it also secures data by encryption.
Enough of the background on ZIP files, now I will be explaining the simple process of How to unzip a file
Unzipping a file
There are various softwares that perform the unzipping function. Some examples are WinRAR, Winzip, 7zip etc. However, for the purpose of this post I will be using WinZip. This tool is available for both Android and PC.
- Launch WinZip.
- Locate the zip file you wish to unzip.
- Select the checkbox next to the desired file.
- Click on “Unzip” and choose its extraction path(i.e where you want it to be placed)
