According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Health Akin Abayomi, about 17 hospitals have been exposed to the coronavirus and have reached out to the Ministry Of Health for assistance.
The Ministry Of Health, through one of its agencies, Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFEMAA) is assisting in decontaminating the hospitals as it was also recommended that patients should no longer be admitted for the meantime till the process is complete.
Mr. Abayo mentioned that Lagos state has recorded 14 deaths of which two happened at the state government’s facility.
He said that the Lagos state government are actively working towards equipping the private sectors on strict guideline and certification of the management and containment of COVID-19.
Mr. Abayo added that they have stepped up the testing capacity in the state with each of the testing facilities testing 200 at a shift and a total of 1000 tests per day.
“We’re no longer waiting for people to reach out to the state, but going into communities to identify cases,”
Mr. Abayomi said the state is increasing collaboration between the public and private sector to cope with the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, including massive training of health personnel in infection prevention and control.
